The FA Cup 1945–46 was the 65th staging of the Football Association Challenge Cup, and the first to be held after WW2

For the only time in the history of the competition, all matches from the first round proper up to and including the sixth round were played over two legs, the first leg being played at the stadium of the team named first on the date specified for each round, which was always a Saturday. In the first and second rounds proper, the second leg was played on the following Saturday; from the third round onwards, it was played during the week following the first leg. If aggregate scores were level after 90 minutes of the second leg had been played, a replay would take place at a neutral venue. These changes were made in order to give clubs additional revenue, as the Football League would not resume normal play until the autumn of 1946.

This is the match day programme from January 14th 1911 when Crewe Alexandra knocked Bristol City out of the FA Cup.  My favourite quote from the programme notes is "Certainly a vast majority of our supporters view this as a walk over for their pets who - on paper - should win. We expect to get home comfortably but Crewe Alexandra must be taken with that amount of seriousness which all cup ties demand". This photo came from Walt Jabsco whose Great Grandfather Frederick Chapple, was on the payroll of Crewe and scored two of the three goals Crewe got in this qualifying match.

Crewe Alexandra in the FA Cup

What I aim to create with this blog is a record of Crewe Alexandra Football Clubs involvement in the English F.A. Cup. I will post an entry for every game played since WWII and fill it in with all the information I can find and any photos and memorabila (programmes, tickets etc) I come accross. I will also have a post for pre WWII periods including whatever information I can find.
